Gassnova

Gassnova is following up the Norwegian State’s interests related to the capture, transport and geological storage of CO₂. This includes promoting technology development and competence building for cost-effective and future oriented solutions for CCS, and to be an adviser to the Ministry of Energy in the CCS field.

Gassnova was established by the Norwegian authorities in 2005 and is fully owned by the state. Gassnova has been closely involved in the development of the full-scale CCS project in Norway, Longship.

Today Gassnova has four main tasks. The company manages a funding scheme for development of technology and solutions for CCS – the CLIMIT programme. The Norwegian state is, through Gassnova, a majority owner in the Technology Centre at Mongstad (TCM). Gassnova is following up the Longship on behalf of the state, i.e., monitoring that the three state aid agreements between state and the industrial partners – Celsio, Heidelberg Materials and Northern Lights – are followed. Knowledge sharing is also an important part of Gassnova’s mandate.
